My love story
February 14, 2007
I LOVE our love story…
Bryan worked security and I needed help getting the oil filter off my car when I was changing the oil… I told him I’d make him cookies, he thought, yeah right!! and I did it to prove him wrong, AND even though they didn’t turn out, I gave them to him anyway. That was the beginning… he knew me as the “cute hippy girl up on stage”… I … didn’t know him. (sheepish smile – whatcan I say? Hyper-focused musician!)
THEN, as I was enjoying spring in Arizona, sick of the practice rooms, walking bare foot everywhere, I decided I had earned myself the right to a romantic fling, “I picked” Bryan as the lucky unlikely (quiet sports jock and all from … ALASKA! ) recipient of my shallow intentions (by now I had figured out he shared an apartment with some friends.)
He quite conveniently had knee surgery that week, SO I took the opportunity to woo him with coloring books and crayons, “My Fair Lady”, squirt gun… you know, fun “healing” toys… and the fling began.
We had 6 weeks till graduation and parting ways. (you’d think I’d be safe from true love!)
After my returning to Australia and him to Alaska, and some great long distance “dating”, we met back in college 5 months later to move all my stuff back to Australia… on the 3rd day at 1am on the floor of some church friend’s living room, he asked me to marry him. It took me 2 hours to say yes… I had only just realized that I DID love this guy, and wasn’t sure I was ready to marry him, but I didn’t know if he’d ask again, and I knew he was the one. SO I finally took the leap of faith and said yes.
He is the only guy I ever dated (yes there were more than there should have been) that I wasn’t unhealthily obsessed over because of insecurity, and the only one that made me laugh constantly over the little things that should be irritating, and the only one that actually got more handsome the longer I knew him.
SO we got married 5 months later (1 of which he wasn’t in my country)… on the anniversary of the infamous knee surgery!! . SO, no, we didn’t know each other that well. But we do now… he is truly the best thing that God could have had for me. Our love grows deeper and stronger, and we STILL laugh over the little things. He is the BEST… he calls me “wife”, I call him “husband”, and I look forward to kissing his wrinkled face and picking out his nose hairs in 20 years.

Lol about the question from the other poster. Do you have an Australian accent?
I also call my husband ‘husband’ But he just calls me Em. (short for Emily) Wonder if he’ll take to calling me wife in another few years or so……
great love story. Sounds like The Lord knew what He was up to, huh?!

Loved reading your story. I love God’s plans. My husband and I were married 4 1/2 months after we first met. Sometimes, you just know, huh?

Renee, Rachel here — was it really that quick. Remember that 6 and 1/2 hr phone call from my place. The poor guy really got a feel for our family as we chatted during your loo breaks and meal breaks — and he still married you — is that why you setled in Alaska? Just kidding!!! We love you both and love having Bryan in our family. And it is so obvious that God has you two together. Can’t wait until you move back here !!! Love you!
